As camp is coming to a close here at Fairmount for 2013 I want to thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His life changing power being ever present. Many people think that with every new generation of young people, comes a downturn in society. But I do not believe this to be true. Instead, I believe this young generation of Christ followers are going to spark a new revival. Countless junior and senior high campers that I have interacted with have affirmed this belief for me. They have amazing potential and many will go on to do the work of Christ in one fashion or another. Whether it be full time ministry or volunteering, they will do great things. But this will only happen if we as adults continue to pour into them and walk along side them.
Let us break the mold of the past and actually encourage their growth into leadership in the church, instead of looking at them as a threat. I know first hand how important it is to have someone pouring into you on a daily basis and wanting you to succeed. When I changed career paths several years ago after feeling a call from God to enter ministry, I had many supportive people. But one person in particular has made the greatest impact on my growth as a leader. Without the Lord putting Rob into my life as a humble example of how to lead, I wouldn't be where I am today. And that is what everyone of our young people need, at least one person who is constantly working with them and teaching them so that they may become what God has called them to be.
This is why I love our youth group so much. I see so much potential and I want to see them succeed in a way that pleases God. Like Rob has done for me, I will do my best to do for our kids. And I believe wholeheartedly that if the collective church as a whole pours into all of our young people throughout this nation and around the world, we will see a revival we have never seen before. God's work on earth is not done yet, and the light of Christ that I see in our young people is the fire that is going to spark the next Great Awakening.
